Memoirs of a Forgotten Man – To Forget or Remember; Which is better?

Reporting the truth can be a dangerous thing to do in certain places and at certain times. And nowhere is this more evident than in the fascinating story of Memoirs of a Forgotten Man presented by Thalia’s Umbrella. Written by D.W. Gregory and Directed by Terry Edward Moore, this production was performed at 12th Avenue Arts and I went to see this performance on February 25th.

Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs: A fun time for the family!

British Christmas Tradition of Panto by Fremont Players

It’s always nice to see a community come together to show something cool now and again. I felt a powerful sense of community when I saw Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs, a British pantomime performed at the Sunset Hill Community Club in Seattle. The performance was put together by the Fremont Players and included original music by the Fremont Philharmonic Orchestra. British Pantomimes are traditionally performed at Christmas and afterward, with family audiences. So it was nice seeing the tradition continue even today.

Andelana: A Tacoma Tale to Remember

I had the opportunity to see Andelana at Dukesbay Theater this Sunday. One faithful night in 1899, a 4-masted barque called The Andelana sank to the bottom of Commencement Bay, where it remains to this very day. There were no survivors save for one crewman who sought medical treatment for his tooth. Since that day, rumors have circulated around that ship, creating talks of ghosts and a curse. Tacoma playwright Roger Iverson brings to life the story of the Andelana on the stage of the Dukesbay Theater. This production was performed for the first time ever in Tacoma on October 27th at the Dukesbay Theater.

Matt and Ben – The Comedic Tale of Two Actors’ Dreams

This Season, going with the theme of “Sometimes I Dream”, Artswest starts with their production of Matt & Ben, an acidic two-person comedy written by Mindy Kaling and Brenda Withers. The play, directed by Zenaida Rose Smith, is a rather satirical look at the lives of famous American actors, Matt Daemon and Ben Affleck before their rise to stardom, and seek to fulfill their dreams of writing a script, the two discover the real and imaginary troubles of trying to work together. This production was performed for the first time in Seattle on September 7th, at the Artswest Theater in West Seattle. The play originally premiered at New York’s Fringe Festival in 2002 and was the winner of the 2002 Fringe NYC Award.
