We are Here-Do you, A Journey Home

I am not a cafeteria

Was one of the funniest and most pertinent lines in the solo performance Dandyland: Queering Motherhood One Day @ a Time written and performed by Laurie Lynch, as part of the Intiman Festival of Emerging Artists. As the name implies, it was about a queer woman’s experience with artificial insemination, pregnancy and all its secondary effects- such as the avalanche of advice as one’s body and condition seems to become public property.

Theater 22 Announces-The Show Must Go On!!!!

Theater 22 is Still Entertaining Us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you know, this year Theatre22 took the summer and fall off to adapt to the changes in our local economy, to work on our long-term strategic plans, and essentially take the time needed to program thoughtfully and consciously with our community driven resources.

Recently, we have watched a handful of our sister companies close their doors or lose their space which has brought longevity to the forefront of our minds. Taking a break to assess was a wise choice. Now we have 2019 lined-up and are feeling very good about choices we are making. We are almost ready to share our next season with you.

Resolutions-Live Radio Show to Usher in the New Year

“Like a vegan in a kale trough”*

Is how I would describe the enthusiasm with which I “consumed” the latest Sandbox Radio production, Resolutions. * A line from the show.

After having the sheer pleasure of attending Sandbox Radio’s holiday live radio show, at the ACT theatre, I decided that my New Year’s resolution would be to declare Sandbox Radio a Seattle “City Treasure,” seek funding, so that it can produce weekly radio shows.

Sugar Plum Gary- A Six-Footer in Red Feet Pajamas

The Best Christmas Miracle is Just Waking Up!

On a very stormy night, when the winds were blowing, when the rain was pelting down and branches were scraping not just the roof of my car but even the hood, I had the pleasure to participate in a heart-warming but irreverent “participantry” hosted by Sugar Plum Gary aka Emmett Montgomery, in the small intimate space at 18th and Union. It was one hour of sheer delight, as Sugar Plum Gary dressed in a bright red onesie answered questions from the audience about Santa Claus and Christmas.

Veils

To Veil or not to Veil, that is the Question.

Is the topic of the play Veils, which opened at West of Lenin produced by Macha Theatre Works. Written byTom Coash, a former professor at the American University of Cairo, where the play takes place just prior to the Arab Spring in 2010 and 2011. It has multiple layers of conflict, focused around whether Muslim women should wear the traditional to veil or not; and almost all the complex nuances of this issue.
