The Tempest-Shakespeare in the ‘Hood
Accessible Shakespeare in the Park
Like its companion piece, 12th Night, The Tempest, which opened in West Seattle this weekend, is a one hour abridged version performed by only four actors. One of Shakespeare’s last plays it uses the familiar plot of a shipwreck, deposed rulers, young lovers adding magic and sorcery. Many critics think of it as Shakespeare’s Swan Song.

For the first post-pandemic, live in-person show, I had the honor to be invited to review Blackout-Recovering from Trauma on a Porch, a hilarious but insightful one-person show, by Hailey Henderson. Midsummer Night’s Dream-Shakespeare in the Park
Best Dream I have seen
Directed by Taylor Davis, Greenstage opened the in-person outdoor theater season in Volunteer Park with A Midsummer Night’s Dream, perhaps the best outdoor Shakespeare production I have seen in 30 years in Seattle.
Blackout-A One-Woman Show. On a porch!!!
Blackout-One Woman Show
Blackout: A One-Woman Show is a journey out of hiding and into the light.
In March of 2020, Hailey Henderson was in the early stages of preparing Blackout, as a live performance for her MFA Thesis project, at the University of Washington. When the COVID-19 Pandemic hit, Hailey adapted this autobiographical solo play, exploring the destructive nature of sexual and emotional abuse, as well as the cost of blending in to survive, into a live streamed show from her porch, Now, it will be performed live, in front of an audience, from the same porch in Seattle.

Crumbs/Migas-Original Script Reading on Zoom-
Once upon a Millennium in Central America
Crumbs/Migas, written by Rebecca Tourino Collinsworth, takes place in a fictional Latin American, where two hungry children have been orphaned by a U.S. backed coup. Fifteen years later, they return, a modern-day Hansel and Gretel, to follow what migas they can in search of their father. Delivered through compact and electric dialogue, and leavened with compassion and even humor, Crumbs/Migas is a play about the grief and grace we encounter along the way home.
Kelly Kitchens directs actors Daniel José Molina, Cristina Goyeneche, Alexandra Tavares, Leandro Cano and Katherine Jett in this world premiere.
Crumbs/Migas is presented as part of the ACTLocal Live series of play readings.
