Rookie director Peggy Gannon has staged a wonderfully acted Third for West Seattle’s ArtsWest Theatre. She has elicited heartfelt and thoughtful work from her entire cast and the play looks top dollar from the first scene. Third was Wasserstein’s final play; she died just months after its off-Broadway premiere. It is not her finest work, and while there are some very moving and thought-provoking scenes, the play finally remains somewhat thin and underdeveloped. LITTLE WOMEN-The Musical

Entertaining Musical Version of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved Little Women

After suffering through several “gritty, raunchy, proudly & intentionally offensive” shows this fall, I was delighted to have a chance to review the “G” rated “Little Women-the Musical” at Artswest, this past weekend. Originally performed on Broadway in 2005, it was adapted from Louisa May Alcott’s beloved 19th Century semi-autobiographical novel, by Allan Knee, with Lyrics by Mindi Dickstein and Music by Jason Howland.

The Taming

Supposed comic activism needs more active comedy.

On the second day of the Federal government shut-down, Artswest opened a Co-world premiere, The Taming, by Lauren Gunderson a comedy about the current polarization of American politics.
