Psychic Comedian, is it real?
A would-be psychic once advertised herself as an “intuitive artist,” I would tweak that description for Peter Antoniou and call him an intuitive genius. His intriguing act opened this past week at Theatre off Jackson in the International District, beguiling even the most cynical of observers (like ME!)
In the first act, he plays mind-reading games with the audience delivered with wit in a London accent. For the second act, audience members write down personal details in an envelope and he “reads” their minds and with 100% accuracy told them what they had written down.
Intuitive people seem psychic because they are experts at picking up visual and non-verbal cues people unconsciously display; Peter’s task was doubly difficult as the audience was masked so some of the most expressive parts of the face did not provide any important data for him to interpret.
There was also a feat with numbers which defied all intuition and were I not present and participated I would not have believed it.
This is a fascinating evening, full of delights. Most importantly, during this time of emergence from pandemic hibernation, it is a communal experience, so I recommend going.
Parking can be difficult, but the theatre is within easy walking distance of Sound Transit’s International District stop, or bus #7 and there are an abundance of Asian Restaurants in the ‘Hood.
