Sugar Plum Gary Returns to 18th and Union

“Is Santa Claus a God”

Every year for the past seven years, self-proclaimed Santanist, comic Emmett Montgomery dons his holiday attire, red flannel feet pajamas, the persona of Sugar Plum Gary and engages in a hilarious conversation with the audience about Christmas.

Past

Hans Christian Andersen Meets British Pantomime

The Fremont Players brings to the stage a lively rendition of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Emperor’s New Clothes, but with several key differences: the main character is an Empress instead of an Emperor, the tale is set in a modernized world of fashion shows and brand collaborations, and the folktale is now in the form of interactive theatre. British Panto, otherwise known as Pantomime, is a genre of musical theater paired with comedy that is catered to a juvenile audience yet also attempts to satisfy adults with hidden innuendos and other sorts of adult humor.

Twelfth Night Productions Ends Their 30-Year Run and Makes Us Wish For More

It’s a shame that this is Twelfth Night Productions’ last production because it was a true joy to experience. Dynamic, alive, and emotionally meaningful, TNP takes a classic Christmas tale and revives it as a live radio broadcast of the 1940s, with opening skits, live music, and uncomfortably funny lingerie ads. One of the things that makes this production such a pleasure – other than the seamless transition from a film script to a radio one – is how much the cast and crew love their show.

Larry Hohm delivers stories to both warm and chill your heart

Larry Hohm seems a friend telling stories over a firepit, with an ominous tone and a tenderness that make the suspense all the more palpable. In the cozy stage of 18th and Union, Hohm recited a series of chilling short stories, from acclaimed authors Shirley Jackson, Frederick Brown, Dick Skeen, Ursula K. Le Guin, Anna Starobinets, and Jeffrey Whitmore.

Irreconcilable History and Fiction in Mr. Dickens and His Carol

Seattle Rep brings Samantha Silva’s acclaimed Mr. Dickens and His Carol to the stage for this Holiday season. The performance is expressive, dynamic and character-driven, with a cast of actors and stage choices that carry the story with ease. First published as a novel in 2017, Silva’s narrative explores the creation of Charles Dickens’ ever-famous A Christmas Carol while, in a Scrooge-like fashion, also going into the past, present, and possible future of the author himself. However, what is not immediately clear is that this is a fictional narrative that, in this case, leans more into fiction than accurate history.
