“Kid Shows” often get a bad reputation for being nearly unwatchable for adult viewers. This is especially prevalent in theater as the plot and dialogue are often the primary sources of entertainment. Thus, shows often cater to a primary demographic: either only for children or only adults. It is because of this that The Totally True and Almost Accurate Adventures of Pinocchio is such a breath of fresh air.
The show details an acting troupe trying (and hilariously failing) to perform the classic story of Pinocchio. While the concept is simple, the show managed to draw in the interest of many families nearby. Keeping the attention of a group of children for an hour is an impressive feat. And while at first there was a lot of the distractions one would expect from a public family show; soon, the audience sat in near silence (except for when they were laughing of course).
However, I would not be writing such a glowing review if it wasn’t for a talented cast that nailed their often-improvisational comedy. I was pleasantly surprised that I laughed so much at something intended for a younger audience. This is a great show for families who want to introduce their children to comedic theater, or who just want to enjoy a free show in the park.
