Nature, Silhouettes and an Elephant trying to Balance on a Tightrope.
A very interesting art exhibit has just opened in the lobby of Taproot Theatre in North Seattle, curated by Gina Cavallo, titled Natural Language: Paintings by Melissa Koch.
Two types of paintings were displayed. One group is an unusual but intriguing combination of muted colors represening of nature, overlaid with black sillouettes, the contrasting subject matter and styles of color, one muted the other vibrant black, suggested a contrast between nature and civilization.
Another group involves balancing and one of my favorites is of an elephant, as a circus performer walking daintily on a tightrope. The artist herself uses her art to support an elephant sanctuary. I could not help but be amused, as I identified with the elephant, struggling to physically do the impossible.
All the art is expertly displayed in the lobby of Taproot, which is a very pleasant place to spend time before a show, there is a fireplace, lots of comfy furniture and it has a very warm cozy atmosphere.
