PREVIEW White Rabbit Red Rabbit
18th and Union and Radial Theatre will present the Northwest premiere of White Rabbit Red Rabbit, a play for a single actor w ho’s never read the script. Each night a different actor steps onto the stage and is handed a script in a plain manila envelope. The resulting performance changes from night to night, but has been described around the world as an extraordinary theatrical experience for performer and audience alike. Slyly humorous, and a little bit disturbing, White Rabbit Red Rabbit explores serious issues through a deft and quirky theatrical lens.
In 2010, Iranian Nassim Soleimanpour was a playwright whose plays could not be seen in his own country. As a conscientious objector, his work was censored and he wasn’t allowed to travel. He shared the play by email with producers at a few international festivals. In 2011, the play had a dual premiere at the Edinburgh Festival and at the SummerWorks festival in Toronto. Since then, there have been over a thousand performances around the world and the play has been translated into 22 different languages. N.B. The running time is only 60-75 minutes.
Director/Producer David Gassner has lined up an impressive list of actors reflecting the diversity of Seattle’s theatre community.
