The Good Doctor- Neil Simon does Chekhov

Simple Production =More Laughs and Entertainment

A delightful revival of Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor opened last night in the Auditorium of University Heights Center, produced by Penguin Productions, a teen theatre group, who last performed at the Seattle Outdoor Theatre Festival in Volunteer Park. The Good Doctor refers to the influential Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, M.D. as he experiences writers block and muses on the short stories he has written.

An intergenerational small theatre arts program located in the University Heights Center showcased three plays written by teenagers at the Seattle Outdoor Theatre Festival, Sunday, July 9th. The plays were impressive because they were highly original, with great amusing dialogue but were not without serious reflections on life and art.

2023 Seattle Outdoor Theatre Festival

One of Seattle’s best summer entertainments will take place in Volunteer Park July 8th and 9th: The Seattle Outdoor Theatre Festival, which features many the outdoor touring shows in the Puget Sound area, including Shakespeare shows by Wooden “O”/Seattle Shakespeare Company, Greenstage, Mt. Vernon’s Shakespeare Northwest, Last Leaf Productions and CSZ Seattle.

Penguin Productions Brings I and You to Greenwood

A local troupe calling themselves Penguin Productions is staging a vibrant I and You in the Taproot’s Theatre’s Isaac Studio space. Shana Bestock ably directs Daisy Schreiber and Linda Cardona-Rigor in playwright Lauren Gunderson’s one-act gem. Opening night found the two leads rushing the opening scenes a bit, but once they found their footing they succeeded in presenting a solid rendition of this mind-bending exploration of Walt Whitman, transcendental philosophy and teen-age angst.
