Harlequin Turns its Theatre into a Nightclub for and Outstanding Concert

Sugar and the Spitfires take the Harlequin stage to tell the real story of folk-punk stars Abigail and Shaun Bengson. The musical memoir shows a love story with an expiration date and explores the question: What if you only had one hundred days to live? One hundred days to love? Hundred Days is a story about humanity, love, and mortality, all things that cannot exist without the other. As lead singer Amy Shephard simply puts it: this is “A story about being human.”

A Woman of No Important’s Run at Taproot is Extended to March 4.

Oscar Wilde, acclaimed playwright and poet, wrote A Woman of no Importance in 1892, as a satire of the Victorian upper class and as a social commentary on marriage and the roles of women. It was, however, the least successful of his plays, because of its lack of original subject matter and its occasionally unnecessary lengthiness. Yet there is value to find in all of Wilde’s plays, including a playfulness amongst social critique and themes that are still relevant to this day. With a stellar cast, stage, and music production, Karen Lund – producing artistic director at Taproot Theatre –attempts to bring about “a story that makes us both laugh and think”.

A Christmas Carol at Harlequin Productions

A perfect way to settle into the Holiday spirit, Harlequin’s last production of the year is a classic retelling of an everlasting Christmas story. Originally written by Charles Dickens in 1843, A Christmas Carol follows a bitter old man, Ebeneezer Scrooge, and four spirits that come to him on Christmas eve. The ghosts of a former business partner and three iterations of the Christmas spirit urge him to follow a path of kindness in his life. This would result in more happiness for those around him and for him as well. A largely popular story, it has never been out of print and has been reproduced countless times for plays, films, operas, television, ballets and others.
