Hippiecrit-Theatre off Jackson Solo Performance Festival
I want to change the world, I just don’t feel like it.
Written and performed by Bhama Roget, Hippiecrit was the opening performance of Theatre off Jackson’s Solo Performance Festival, and the opening line was one of the funniest one liners in the history of comedy. Through several sketches, and some short films, Roget chronicles her life as the off-spring of two orthodox New Agers, who met in a Yoga Ashram, but was raised by her Southern Baptist grandparents as a Texas cheerleader. As an actor, Roget played herself, a de-crowed Miss Texas, a Portland-worshipping hipster, a re-incarnation specialist and a tom-boy lady do-it-yourselfer, all with impeccable comic timing and hilarious costumes. Her keen insight into the foibles of the modern day, spoke to all ages and all types, and took the mickey out of everyone. If the next four shows running through March 23rd are half as funny as Hippiecrit, then everybody should go see them.
