Simple Production =More Laughs and Entertainment

A delightful revival of Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor opened last night in the Auditorium of University Heights Center, produced by Penguin Productions, a teen theatre group, who last performed at the Seattle Outdoor Theatre Festival in Volunteer Park. The Good Doctor refers to the influential Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, M.D. as he experiences writers block and muses on the short stories he has written.

Parley Productions, produced a “micro-production” of The Oysterman’s House by Susan McNallly, at their University Heights space this weekend. A “micro-production” is a stripped down production with minimal props, set and costumes ( and indeed, in this micro-production, minimal actors) through a playwrights organization trying to make theatre accessible to all, by staging original works to a pay-what you can audience. Parley Productions seemed to have had a successful night because every seat was filled and the “micro-production” was an excellent show-case.

Intiman Theatre gave Seattle a hilarious, heartfelt, and poignant gift last Thursday night with the opening of Bulrusher at the Jones Playhouse in the U-District. Seattle native Kiki Yeung, who performed in Seattle with Pork Filled Players, and Freehold Engaged Theatre, has produced and will host, a mini tour of Crazy Woke Asians. The perennially sold out comedy show will take place at three different locations Unexpected Productions(Pike Place Market Theater),Laughs Comedy Club(University District) and Comedy on Broadway (Jai Thai on Broadway) between July 24th and July 26th.
